Welcome to Educational Options...

Educational Options is about meeting the social, emotional, and academic needs of the intellectually gifted.  It is about "thinking outside the box," for people who do not fit the norms.  It is about families, children, adolescents, and adults, searching, because something is not right ... and it is the emotions, not the school or job performance, that isn't right.  Although Educational Options is centered in Minnesota and especially serves the needs of gifted children in Minnesota, it is possible to arrange for assessments and consultations from anywhere in the country.

At Educational Options, our goal is to guide the family through the educational process and provide information that will enable the parents to make choices that work for their family.  There are many options, including acceleration, grade skipping, home schooling, partial home schooling, radical acceleration, special schools, and combinations of these.

Educational Options is here to help you.  Educational Options offers Assessment and Consultation to guide a highly intelligent person (maybe yourself, maybe your student, maybe your child) toward a life of fulfillment and purpose.  Educational Options offers Readings, both books and articles on issues related to high intelligence.

Dr. Ruf's book, Losing Our Minds: Gifted Children Left Behind wins 2006 TAGT Legacy Book Award!

Losing Our Minds: Gifted Children Left Behind.  Deborah's book, published by Great Potential Press, combines four years of data gathering from 50 families with nearly 30 years of research and experience in the field of giftedness, individual differences, and high intelligence. The book is aimed primarily at parents and vividly describes the upper 10 to 15 percent of the intellectual continuum in human beings from birth to adulthood as manifested in their behaviors, thoughts, accomplishments, and test scores. She introduces the concept of Levels of Giftedness and makes it very clear how many factors contribute to a person's intellectual levels and achievement.
